The Lonesome Prairie Dogs |
The Lonesome Prairie Dogs led its 20th Annual New Year's Day Hank-O-Rama, a tribute to country music pioneer Hank Williams, on the anniversary of his death. This year’s edition, held at the Bowery Electric, featured a repertoire of songs sung by Hank Williams, Hank Williams Jr., and Hank Williams III, commonly known as Hank 3. Sean Kershaw and the New Jack Ramblers opened the show, followed by the Lonesome Prairie Dogs performing and serving as the house band for many local country artists. This year’s cameos included performances by Lenny Kaye, Tammy Faye Starlite, Cliff Westfall, Tom Clark, Jack Grace, Elena Skye and Boo Reiners of the Demolition String Band, Monica Passin, Monica Falcone, Nikko Lonesome and the Lonesome Horns.
Beginning in 1947, Hiram “Hank” Williams recorded 55 singles that reached the top 10 of Billboard’s Country & Western Best Sellers chart. Five of these songs were released posthumously. Twelve of these songs reached No.1. He died in 1953 at age 29.
