As the chillier weather sets in, finding free music in the
park will become harder but not impossible. Most of the summer festivals have
ended, but scattered performances are scheduled at several parks in Manhattan.
If nothing else, the buskers will entertain as long as the weather permits.
The James "Pony" Kerr Trio will perform today, October
3, and the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Combo will perform on October 10 at
the 116th Street overlook in Riverside Park. Both concerts are at 2 p.m.

New York University will present a back-to-school concert at
Garibaldi Plaza in Washington Square Park this Thursday, October 7, at 2 p.m. The
program, called Entropic Music, will feature Pan Arcadia and other performers.
Annette A. Aguilar and StringBeans Latin Brazilian Jazz will
perform on the back porch and garden area of the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum this
Thursday, October 7, at 6 p.m.

Mike SOS will present another concert in Tompkins Square
Park this coming Saturday, October 9, from 2 to 6 p.m. The show will feature Blueblack,
the Cameramen, the Errorists, Invading Species, Necrotic Society, and Valen.

The Jazz WaHi Quintet will perform at the Café Lawn at Fort
Tryon Park on October 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is entitled Autumn Leaves,
Jazz & Poetry in Honor of Nereida Delgado
The Gabriel Chakarji Trio will perform jazz at Andrew
Haswell Green Park, on October 14 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Chakarji is a Latin Grammy Award nominee
pianist and composer who merges his Venezuelan music background with the sounds
of New York City Jazz.

Rene McLean & Music of the Spirit, Bertha Hope 5tet,
Baba Don Babatunde will perform at the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus
Garvey Park on October 14 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The concert will be presented by
the Jazz Foundation of America, with support from the National Endowment for
the Arts, NYS Council on the Arts, NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, and the
Howard Gilman Foundation.
The John Benitez Latin Jazz Group will perform in J. Hood
Wright Park on October 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The concert will be presented by
the Jazz Foundation of America, with support from the national Endowment for
the Arts, NYS Council on the Arts, NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, and the
Howard Gilman Foundation.

The Blue Dahlia will perform at Ruppert Park on October 19
from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Characterized by the sensual voice of jazz and French
chanson, The Blue Dahlia offers an organic sound with electric energy.
Broadway For Arts Education presents a Broadway Halloween
Festival at Johnny Hartman Plaza on October 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. Hosted by members
of the Broadway community, the program includes performances, food, carnival
games, pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts and more. Free carnival tickets will
be given to all NYC public school children.
