Weekend Sounds: Live Music for Many Tastes

Remember when you used to go to your favorite club on the weekend and rock out with your favorite local music act? Those times are slowly coming back, although now it happens mostly at sidewalk cafes and parks.

According to newly-clarified government regulations, live music these days should be "incidental" and not the attraction. Venues cannot advertise the music, nor can they sell tickets or apply a cover charge. Restaurants must serve "substantial" food (not "Cuomo chips") to sitting customers who are socially distanced. Musicians and venue operators are working the best they can under these guidelines.

The following music artists were among the many that performed live this past weekend. Will they play again this coming weekend? This can only be known by word of mouth. Undoubtedly, however, if the band you wanted to see is not performing, there will be a performance by another awesome music act.

Pinc Louds plays indie music at Tompkins Square Park
Leni Stern grooves with roots from Mali outside the Front Gallery
Melanie Marod and Spiros Exaras combine vocals with classical guitar at Drom
Strange Majik is performing as a duo instead of a full band at Marshall Stack
Carmine & Friends jam on Middle Eastern music at Nomad
B.B. YTK plays raw rock and blues jams at Tompkins Square Park
Rob Mastrianni dazzles with his instrumental guitar techniques and compositions at Marshall Stack
PANDEMIC!! reinterprets songs from salsa's golden years in Tompkins Square Park
